CAT III & CAT 4 Contaminated Effluent Treatment Plants

Astell manufacture a wide range of aqueous liquid Effluent Treatment Plants to service any CAT III or CAT 4 facility. Particularly suited to High Containment Facilities or High Risk Veterinary laboratories.

Effluent (or waste) Treatment is necessary in laboratories or containment areas where waste water and effluent cannot be allowed into the drainage system without first being treated.

This waste can include the effluent created by:

  • Tap water from sinks or wash basins
  • Washroom facilities within the containment area
  • Sanitary installations such as toilets
  • Water from showers and other cleaning facilities in the containment area
  • Any exhaust / water from sterilizers in use within the Category Three or Four area

An Astell Effluent and Waste Water Treatment Plant can collect and store all the above waste, then process for safe release into the drainage system. Effluent Treatment Plants are the up to date version of what were once known as ‘Kill Tanks’.

These plants generally come in two types, Continuous Sterilization and Batch Sterilization.

Each system has to be sized to ensure that the daily production of waste is catered for with capacities ranging from 100 to 5000 litres.

Each tank is fully contained and designed to ensure that all connections are above any fluid level eliminating dangerous and costly leaks.

All vapours and expelled air are filtered every cycle

Every tank is controlled via it’s own Full Colour Touch Screen Controller

Batch Sterilization

This is the most commonly used method. A system consisting of two or more tanks is installed, with one tank collecting waste from the facility.

When this tank has reached a preset level, sterilization will begin and the second tank will switch to collecting any further waste.

Upon sterilization completion, the first tank is emptied and will sit idle until tank 2 is full and begins sterilization.

In this way, collection of effluent is not delayed whilst sterilization is being performed in one of the tanks.

Continuous Sterilization

This is similar to batch and again often consists of two tanks. Contaminated waste is stored until a preset level is reached in the tank. This then triggers the start of the process.

Once the process starts it will continue until the level of liquid in the tank is lowered to a shut down level or the flow of contaminated effluent from the facility stops.
